The Strategic Management Application provides an all-encompassing view of the organisation’s performance by linking the strategic plan to outputs, projects and other deliverables. The United Nations and its entities as an organisation are accountable for all activities and must report the results to the General Assembly and the Member States. Accountability reporting is one of the functions provided in strategic planning. Another function of strategic planning is that it provides real time management information; this allows the management team to make informed decisions at an organisational level. Finally, reporting for the United Nations entities is of utmost importance. With the use of tagging, SMA allows for cross-functional reporting in areas such as gender, climate change etc. This function allows entities to report and monitor how they are performing in these cross-functional areas and address questions such as “how do we work on gender?” and “how do we work on climate change?” etc.
